Places to visit

As well as the wonderful scenery of the different Dales there are numerous towns and villages such as Richmond, Skipton, Kirkby Lonsdale, Leyburn, Ingleton, Hawes. There are castles at Richmond, and Skipton plus Bolton Castle near Leyburn.

Lovers of waterfalls will have a fantastic time in the Dales. There are Falls at Aysgarth, Richmond, Bainbridge, Hawes and Stainforth plus Cotter Force, Hardraw Force, Catrigg Force, Cautley Spout and many others including those on the famous Waterfalls Walk in Ingleton

There are numerous viaducts on the Settle to Carlisle railway line including Eden Lacy, Smardale, Lunds, Arten Gill, Dent Head and Ribblehead. A journey on the Settle to Carlisle railway provides fantastic views on a clear day.

The unusual and fun Forbidden Corner, near Middleham, is a great and enjoyable experience as is a day at Bolton Abbey near Embsay, there is a steam train from Skipton to Embsay which stops at Bolton Abbey station.

There are show caves at Ingleton and Clapham plus an old show cave, Yordas Cave, just off the Ingleton to Dent road which can be visited but light is needed!



For walkers

The Yorkshire Dales is a great area for walkers with large areas of the Yorkshire Dales National Park being accessible to the public as a result of the Countryside and Rights of Way (CRoW) Act 2000. However please see the Yorkshire Dales nation Park Authority website for current restrictions.
